I Mooned My Butcher!

So this is embarrassing. When Matt's Meat came out to butcher the lambs yesterday there was a bit of a hiccup. When he shot the first lamb it missed the brain and we had an injured lamb running around the pasture and took 5 minutes to get him to quiet down and hold still so we could finish the job! When killing with firearms you always have to be sure of your 'backdrop' because if a bullet misses or punches through it would hit whatever is on the other side of the animal---children, goats, chickens, butchers, etc. Poor Jumper, she was upset because her baby was hurt and it broke my heart when she came running to me to fix things. I guess that is once again the homestead paradox...you love your animals but they can't just be viewed as pets unless you are independently wealthy and then your meat still has to come from somewhere.

Once the other lamb was dispatched they had to get it back to their mobile unit for cleaning. To do this an electric fence had to be got over and I kindly offered to turn it off. These are big strapping lads though and they don't need that, they will just throw the lambs over the fence and then step over! Can you hear the manly grunts? Well, the first lamb goes over without a hitch. On the second lamb the smaller of the two men slips and dumps the lamb right on the fence! BOOM! The shock knocks the guy off his feet and the lamb is now shuddering with the electricity shocking on and off. When  Smaller Guy recovers he jokes that we probably just restarted the lambs heart. I dunno, but I had leaped into action and jumped over the fence to turn off the charger, FORGETTING  THAT I WAS WEARING A DRESS AND THERE WERE MEN PRESENT! Didn't occur to me until later that my lifting my dress to get over the fence might not have been appropriate since I had also forgotten that that dress has a slit in the back that would have shown my whole backside if the rest was raised enough to get over the fence, twice. So feeling a little embarrassed and hoping the men were conveniently looking in another direction when I vaulted over.....
