No Babies. New Coldframe. I love my Greenhouse!

Chamomile was due yesterday, and here we are with no babies or even a hint that labor is starting. Seriously?! We have waited for this moment for 5 months now and now it is going to be a late delivery? Every year this tension builds up around the impending deliveries and yet every year I get just as worked up as the last over whether or not everyone (including me) will survive the ordeal! This is my FAVORITE video describing the whole kidding experience. Is by TheGoatMentorhttp on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYCk_Uu2sC0

Yesterday while GearButt finished the summer kitchen I took odds and ends and put them together into a coldframe. Since all of my cold plants are planted in cardboard boxes it was simple to relocate them all into a grid inside the coldframe. During the night the temperature was in the 20's F but nothing was lost in the unheated greenhouse or the coldframe. Included in the frame are peas, strawberries, chard, and cabbages.

This is the first year that we have had a greenhouse. Because of this I used reclaimed lumber and cheap painter's plastic to make it. All told the cost was probably under $250 and that includes the lumber for the hotbed. When the hotbed was new in February it was very strong on the ammonia and a little scary to be in because the heat was also quite intense. The strong heat lasted for about 6 weeks and now is just holding the ambient air above zero if we have a freeze. I would totally do this again and next time would feel comfortable spending the money on rigid plastic (which would be the biggest cost at $15 a sheet).
