Emergency! Emergency! Emergency!

That is what my little heart and mind are saying for the last few weeks. The sun has come out intermittently and my green-thumb is itching. Groceries have gone through the roof again, the goats are not freshened, and the last frost date is almost five months away! What am I going to do about this state of affairs? I hate buying groceries! I hate going into town to the cheapest grocery store within a 30 mile radius only to find that their prices doubled overnight because fuel prices doubled!
My neighbor down the road (in Idaho a neighbor is anyone who's house you might hit if you are target-practicing with your .243 and you miss) is planting his garden next week (February 14th). He has a large commercial greenhouse and then inside that is a smaller 3' x 20' greenhouse. Inside the double greenhouse he is planting peppers, etc. with a germinating heat pad and a tiny heater that runs only at night and at a temperature to prevent freezing. In the main greenhouse he is planting lettuce. If I can get my little greenhouse finished within the next few days I am going to build my compost pile in the greenhouse to heat up the air at night....so not a hotbed, but a hot-house (?)
, heated by steam coming off the compost pile. I wonder if it will work?
